RACE #8 - BELMONT PARK - 5:13 PM EASTERN POST

The Wild Applause Stakes

8.0 FURLONGS TURF THREE YEAR OLD FILLIES STAKES $100,000.00 PURSE

#2 LULL
#6 RUBILINDA
#3 BELLAVAIS
#1 RUM GO

Well folks ... Few broodmares have had the influence of Glowing Tribute over the years. While her son, Kentucky Derby-Travers champ Sea Hero, gets most of the headlines, her legacy is also safe with her daughters. Wild Applause was among her best. The Rokeby product broke her maiden first out at Belmont Park, where she would return to win the G3 Comely. She also claimed victory in the G2 Diana for MacK Miller. Here in just the 3rd running of "The Applause," #2 LULL has hit the board in "POWER RUN FASHION" in three of her last five outings, including a win in her5th race back. Jockey Irad Ortiz and Trainer Chris Clement send her to the post ... they've hit the board with 56% of their entries saddled as a team to date. #6 RUBILINDA, the morning line favorite, comes off a maiden-breaking win in her "first asking," however, kindly note that this win did not meet my criteria to be named a ""POWER RUN WIN."

RECOMMENDED CHOICES
The Walker Group Picks

# 2 EYE B DASHING 9/5

# 5 PEPPERMINT PUNCH 7/2

# 10 RED RAIN STORM 6/1

I've got to go with EYE B DASHING. Has performed well lately in short races, posting a nifty 74 avg speed fig. Has been running strongly lately and ought to be up on the front end early on. Ran a solid last race. PEPPERMINT PUNCH - Is a strong contender based on figures posted recently under today's conditions. With a very good 63 Equibase Speed Figure last time out, will definitely be a factor in this outing. RED RAIN STORM - Has run admirably when running a short race. Always difficult to beat Stinebaugh and Ortiz working together, winning 22 percent of their races.

RECOMMENDED CHOICES
The Walker Group Picks

# 4 BAD E 2/1

# 5 BLOOD AND BONES 3/1

# 6 FIRETOWN BOY 20/1

I favor BAD E here. Difficult to pass on this gelding with McNeil in the saddle. Has solid front speed and will almost certainly fare soundly versus this field. I think having McNeil ride this gelding is a smart selection. BLOOD AND BONES - Have to take notice when any equine makes a quick comeback. FIRETOWN BOY - Has longshot potential and could win at boxcar odds. The class fig of today's contest is much lower than his last race.

Rating: Golden DollarGolden DollarGolden DollarGolden Dollar

#7 SHADES OF GREY (FR) (ML=6/1)

SHADES OF GREY (FR) - Faced tougher in the last race at Monmouth Park. Based on Equibase class figures, this is a weaker field, so I will put this one on my list of top contenders. This filly ran a real solid contest back on May 27th but bounced when coming back off that effort. Today should be different; I expect a return to form.

Vulnerable Contenders: #4 STELLA STREET (IRE) (ML=8/5), #5 TEVERE (ML=4/1), #1 POSTINO'S IDOL (ML=5/1),

STELLA STREET (IRE) - This mare showed very little last time out of the box. Finished fourth on June 17th after the extended vacation. Doubtful if there will be any change in this race. TEVERE - All kinds of crazy zip entered for this clash. Almost no chance for this front-runner. POSTINO'S IDOL - Don't believe this horse is worth 5/1 in this event.

STRAIGHT WAGERS:

Putting our cash on #7 SHADES OF GREY (FR) to win. Have to have odds of at least 1/1 or better though

#1 TRULY PONTI (ML=4/1)
#6 HUB CAP (ML=8/1)

TRULY PONTI - Finished fifth at Golden Gate Fields last out. Was close at the end and at odds of 4/1 in this event, she looks like a possible contender. This filly's last speed figure garnered on May 29th is tops in last race speed figs. HUB CAP - When Herrera and McDonald combine forces on horses the ROI has been terrific at +132.

Vulnerable Contenders: #5 WHO SAID LUCKY (ML=5/2), #3 RUNNINFORHOODY (ML=3/1), #7 STREETLIGHTROMANCE (ML=7/2),

WHO SAID LUCKY - Doesn't seem inspiring to me after the lack of any sort of closing talent on Jun 8th. Registered a mediocre speed rating in the last race in a Starter Allowance race on June 8th. Doubtful to see an improved performance off of that fig. RUNNINFORHOODY - This filly hasn't been showing me anything in the last two outings. Don't think this mount will make a winning move in today's race. That last speed fig was most unsatisfactory when compared with today's class rating. STREETLIGHTROMANCE - In any affair of 6 furlongs, I like to wager on a contender that has been sharp in short distance events recently. Finished sixth last time out. Would have to move up to land in the top three in today's race. This entrant ran a somewhat easily forgotten speed figure last time around the track. She shouldn't improve and will likely lose in today's event running that fig.

STRAIGHT WAGERS:

Go with #1 TRULY PONTI on top if we're getting at least 9/5 odds
